(Civil) Marriage:

Rebeka Suserman Married 1897 age 43 years 4 mo.  her parents Simson Suserman

and Tumcze Suserman to

 Leisor Fraenkel 42 years, son of Mordko Fraenkel and Sara Rath

 

 

(Very few of the Jewish couples in  Kolomyya  had a civil marriage.

Religious marriages seem not to be recognized by the state beginning around

the 1870's, thus most children are listed in those years under their

mothers' surnames, or ever their maternal grandmother's surname!

The explanation I have heard is that a civil marriage cost them a great deal
