SOUTH WESTERN CORNER OF THE UKRAINE L'VOV AND TERNOPOL ARE IN THE UPPER PART OF THIS MAP AND KOLOMYA IS IN THE LOWER PART (SECOND LONGITUDE LINE FROM THE RIGHT) THE POLISH BORDER IS ON THE UPPER RIGHT(RED BLUEISH), THE HUNGARIAN BORDER IS ON THE LOWER RIGHT (RED GREEN). BETWEEN THEM (JUST OUT OF THE PICTURE) IS THE CZECH BORDER. THE TERRITORY BELOW THE TOOTHED RED LINE (THE KARPATHO UKRAINE) WAS PART OF CZECHO-SLOVAKIA BETWEEN THE WARS. TO THE SOUTH (RED YELLOW) IS ROUMANIA. THE ENTIRE REGION HAD A HEAVILY JEWISH POPULATION BEFORE THE HOLOCAUST. PROGROMS WERE COMMON IN THE UKRAINE AND ROUMANIA CAUSING WAVES OF IMMIGRATIOM INTO THE USA
